President Zardari Highlights Democracy’s Role in Empowering Citizens on World Democracy Day

ISLAMABAD – On World Democracy Day, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that the solution to the nation’s challenges lies in a vibrant and inclusive democratic process.

“We celebrate World Democracy Day to underscore the significance of democracy in empowering citizens and encouraging their active participation in the political process,” he stated in a message from the President House. President Zardari highlighted that democracy is the foundation of a just society, advocating for the protection of fundamental rights and promoting political, economic, and social inclusion.

This year, the global theme focuses on the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in enhancing good governance. “AI can boost transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public administration, making it a crucial tool in modern governance. AI can provide data-driven insights, making the democratic process more transparent and accessible for voters by sharing vital information about candidates and their policies,” he added. President Zardari stressed that democracy stands for people’s participation in the political process, political pluralism, and citizens’ rights.

He noted that the political landscape of the country has faced numerous challenges. Leaders like Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto made significant contributions to the restoration and strengthening of democratic processes in the country. Their unwavering commitment and sacrifices remind us of the ongoing struggle to uphold democratic values.

“As we observe this day, we also acknowledge the role of our Parliament in safeguarding democracy by representing the will of the people, formulating public policy, and addressing the nation’s most pressing challenges. It is the primary forum for addressing grievances, ensuring inclusivity, and fostering a resilient future for Pakistan,” the president said.

President Zardari emphasized that as Pakistan faces contemporary challenges, it is crucial to strengthen democratic institutions, undertake reforms, and work collectively to consolidate democracy.
