Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Warns Against Non-Parliamentary Reversal of 26th Amendment

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has issued a stern warning against any attempts to overturn the 26th Constitutional Amendment outside of Parliament. Speaking to media representatives at the Parliament House, Bilawal emphasized that only Parliament has the authority to reverse the amendment and that no other institution would be recognized if it attempts to undo the changes.

He also clarified that the PPP is not part of the federal cabinet and reiterated the party’s commitment to Pakistan’s nuclear assets and missile technology. Bilawal’s remarks come amid growing discussions around the 26th Amendment, with a constitutional bench of the Supreme Court scheduled to hear petitions against it on January 27.

The amendment, passed in October 2024, introduced key changes to the judicial appointment process, particularly in Article 175-A. Bilawal stressed the importance of respecting the Constitution and the law, and advised the government to build consensus before making any decisions to ensure smoother implementation.
