PPP leader Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has called for the creation of a “bill of rights” for the digital age, emphasizing the need for equitable and unrestricted internet access. Speaking at the convocation of the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Bilawal distanced himself from the government’s policies on internet governance and climate change. He highlighted the importance of revisiting the country’s development spending to address the challenges posed by climate change.
Bilawal criticized the government’s attempts to control digital resources, such as bandwidth and wireless internet, and stressed that affordable, high-speed internet should be recognized as a fundamental right. He invited students and youth to contribute to the draft of the digital bill of rights, urging them to share their suggestions on social media platforms.
Addressing climate change, Bilawal warned of its devastating impact on Pakistan, particularly in the Indus basin, and called for urgent preparations to face natural disasters. He also voiced his opposition to the six-canal project, which has sparked tensions between Sindh and the federal government, and criticized the current climate change allocations in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
