Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott at Bilawal House on Thursday. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and the UK, with an emphasis on trade and cultural exchanges.
During the discussion, both parties agreed on the importance of strengthening trade and cultural ties between the two countries. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also met with former National Assembly member Ghous Bux Khan Mahar to discuss the political situation in Sindh.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also had a meeting with the British High Commissioner at the CM House. The meeting, attended by CM’s Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, covered critical issues such as climate change, post-flood rehabilitation, and education. The high commissioner highlighted the challenges faced by the Sindh government in rehabilitating areas affected by devastating floods.
Chief Minister Shah reflected on the aftermath of the 2022 floods, which caused extensive damage to agriculture, roads, and the irrigation system. He noted that over 2.1 million people were affected and emphasized the need for sustainable recovery projects. Shah also discussed the progress in rebuilding damaged schools and acknowledged the support from donor agencies.
The discussions also touched on industrial development, particularly the completion of special economic zones. The high commissioner stressed the need for industrialization in Karachi, while Shah shared updates on the government’s commitment to economic growth through public-private partnerships, engaging both local and international investors.
The meeting concluded with a focus on addressing critical challenges, strengthening the education sector, and driving industrial and economic growth. The Sindh government has initiated climate-resilient projects to ensure sustainable recovery, and the British government has been supportive in various sectors, including irrigation.
